People looking for advice on how to stay warm in their homes and cut energy bills this winter are being encouraged to visit the Scottish Government's Home Energy Scotland Roadshow which rolls into Linwood tomorrow (December 2) from 11am.

With research showing two out of three Scottish lofts currently don't have enough insulation, and that homes in Renfrewshire could be eligible for free insulation, advisors from the Home Energy Scotland Hotline will highlight to shoppers at ASDA Linwood how the correct level of insulation can help avoid costly energy loss.

Using thermal imaging technology, advisors will demonstrate to passers by where heat is lost from the body in a bid to prompt them into thinking about how heat is lost from their home, and what they can do to help keep the heat in.

Supporting the Scotland wide roadshow, Alex Neil, Cabinet Secretary for Infrastructure and Capital Investment said: "We can all take little steps that can make a big difference in heating our homes. Ensuring your home has adequate insulation is one of the free measures that is on offer to households.

"The winter weather is already starting to creep in, so now is the time to act to keep your home as warm as it can be over the winter and take advantage of our universal home insulation programme which is free to all households in the targeted areas.

"We need to ensure that all homes in Scotland are aware of what is on offer and that's why we are staging this roadshow to take the messages into the heart of people's everyday lives.

"Installing cavity wall and loft insulation in an average home and being more energy efficient can save up to £280 each year. All it takes is one call to the Home Energy Scotland Hotline who will help you cut your bills."

The Home Energy Scotland Hotline has been set up to encourage people across Scotland to find out if they have the correct level of insulation and promote the free and discounted offers available to people who are looking to stay warm this winter.

Loft insulation alone can help people save up to £175 a year in energy bills, as well as helping the environment by creating greener homes, and one call to the Hotline could result in free insulation being provided.

Energy advisor for the Home Energy Scotland Hotline in Renfrewshire, Chris Beaton, added: "Having loft or cavity wall insulation installed couldn't be easier. One phone call is all it takes to find out what sort of discount you could be eligible for. Tailor made energy advice will be available to each caller based on their own home and circumstances.

"The installations are often carried out in less than an hour with little or no disruption to the home. Loft installation of 270mm could save you £175 per year - this financial saving is a massive incentive to pick up your phone and make the call."
