The 11-year-old female Collie called Buffy had a huge sore on her neck which had become infected, due to lack of proper care.
A Sheriff has now ordered owner Robert Docherty, 37, to appear before him after he pleaded guilty by letter to causing the dog unnecessary suffering between August and November last year.
Paisley Sheriff Court heard how the dog was found in a terrible state when officers were called in to investigate.
Docherty, of Kintyre Avenue, Linwood, admitted that he failed to provide a suitable diet, allowed the dog to become obese and neglected to seek veterinary assistance when she was suffering from a large “granulomatus mass” on her neck which became infected.
Sheriff Seith Ireland declined to hear a full narration of the facts but ordered the accused to appear in person for sentence on February 24.
