Matthew Fraser brutally attacked Gavin Agnew in Linwood last September.
Fraser was able to pounce on his victim despite both his legs being in plaster.
The 25 year-old admitted assaulting Mr Agnew to his permanent disfigurement when he appeared at the High Court in Glasgow.
It emerged Fraser had only recently been freed early from jail having previously been convicted of blinding a man in a similar attack.
Yesterday (Tues) passing a sentence of three years and nine months, judge Lord Turnbull told Fraser: “I accept you were not the instigator of the offence.” He added that Fraser “over-reacted” and “inflicted very serious injuries” and was on licence at the time for an offence that was similar.
The judge also ordered that Fraser is supervised for two years after his release from prison.
