A DOG was reportedly left inside a vehicle at the Braehead car park while his owner went shopping.

The dehydrated King Charles Spaniel was allegedly trapped in the car for over an hour.

It is claimed that the window had been left very slightly ajar but the dog was very agitated in the heat.

Police officers managed to pass water to the dog before the owner returned at 1pm today.

The 60-year-old man from Glasgow has been charged for alleged offences under the Animal Health and Welfare Act of 2006.

With temperatures in the area reaching over 27 degrees today, pet owners are asked to be extra cautious around their animals.

Inspector Cassie Glass said: "We are warning people not to leave young children and animals in car in excessive heat as it is dangerous.

"In this instance police officers managed to pass water to the dog as the window was very slightly ajar but the dog was very distressed.

"CCTV is in operation so we can see what is happening and the man arrived just before the officers got there.

"He had been out shopping while his dog was trapped in the hot car and is being charged for animal cruelty."
