A WOMAN who headbutted a karaoke singer in a Renfrew bar brawl has been ordered to pay her victim £500 compensation.

Holly Crossan attacked Kiri Christiansen after she tried to intervene in a dispute at The Kind Man pub, in Hairst Street.

Her aunt, Marlene Crossan, also got involved by hurling a stool across the busy bar - leading to both woman appearing at Paisley Sheriff Court.

Holly Crossan, 29, pleaded guilty to assaulting Ms Christiansen, leaving her with a lump to her forehead and a bruised leg, while Marlene Crossan, 44, pleaded guilty to disorderly behaviour.

They admitted their guilt at an earlier court hearing, where procurator fiscal depute Emma Jeffrey explained that Miss Christiansen had seen issues between patrons in the bar and tried to calm the situation.

Ms Jeffrey said: “Kiri thought she would try and calm the situation and approached Holly Crossan and spoke to her.”

It was stated that Holly Crossan then headbutted the victim and was seen punching her before her aunt picked up the bar stool and threw it.

Ms Jeffrey added: “Marlene Crossan, aware there were issues, picked up a bar stool, raised it and threw it towards a person standing nearby.

“This was observed by bar staff and caught on CCTV.”

Defence solicitor David Nicholson said Marlene Crossan had lost the plot because of stress caused by her mum’s ill health.

He explained: “She has two children, a 29-year-old who is completely independent, and a daughter, 14, who is still at school.

“She had not been out for five or six years. Her mum had cancer and she was caring for her.”

Sentence on both women had been deferred until this week, when they returned to the dock to learn their fate.

And the pair, of different addresses in Ard Road, Renfrew, were both ordered to cough up for their antics.

Sheriff David Pender ordered Marlene Crossan to pay £400, while Holly Crossan was told to pay a total of £900 - made up of £500 compensation for Miss Christiansen, plus a £400 fine.
