RESIDENTS and community leaders have told of their shock after a gun thug targeted a Renfrew flat in a terrifying late-night attack.

Police were called to Kenley Road, near the Soar at intu Braehead leisure complex, at around 11.50pm on Thursday after reports of a shooting.

No-one was injured and it is believed the incident was a targeted attack.

Officers have stepped up patrols in the area in a bid to provide reassurance to local residents and are keen to hear from anyone who may have heard or seen anything suspicious in the area at the time.

The shooting took place just hours after a gunman opened fire at a car near the Robroyston area, some 13 miles away.

As part of the police investigation, detectives are trying to establish if the two shootings are linked.

Detective Inspector Suzie Chow, of Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team, told The Gazette: “We would appeal to anyone who was in the area of Kenley Road late on Thursday night and perhaps heard a loud noise which could have been a gunshot, or noticed any people running away or vehicles driving off at speed, to please come forward.

“This incident will understandably have caused concern in the local community and we have additional patrols in the area to provide reassurance.”

Councillor John Shaw, who represents Renfrew North and Braehead, said the shooting had been “a real shock to everyone in the area.”

He added: “There was some comfort, though, when we were assured it was not Renfrewshire-related and, while there has been an increased police presence, there is no expectation of further issues.”

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Major Investigation Team by calling 101.
