AN investigation has been launched after a car ploughed into a takeaway at speed in Renfrew.
The driver of the white Volkswagen Golf crashed into the Ferry Nice Food takeaway in Ferry Road after losing control in Kings Inch Road last night at around 6.30pm.
Ferry Road was closed overnight but has reopened this morning.
The driver is the subject of a report to the fiscal for alleged dangerous driving.
Eight residents were evacuated from a block of flats next door and building surveyors are on site at the moment assessing its safety.
As it stands, Renfrewshire Council has said the flats are not in any 'immediate danger' but the takeaway building has been severely damaged.
The council said they do not know at this stage when residents will be allowed to return to their homes.
It is thought the takeaway will be closed for several weeks.
A council spokesman said: “We can confirm Ferry Road reopened to traffic this morning.
“Council staff attended the scene and the building is not considered immediately dangerous.
“At this stage we cannot confirm when the evacuated residents will be allowed back into the building.”
Anyone with information is being urged to call 101.
