A 59-YEAR-OLD man was left with a fractured skull after being set upon by four thugs.

The male was jumped by the gang in an unprovoked attack in Moorpark Square at the weekend.

The Renfrew man was beaten up so badly that his skull was fractured and he was left with terrible cuts and bruises over his face.

One male suspect has been described as around 25 to 30 years old and wearing casual clothing, as did the other three sick thugs.

Their victim was rushed to the RAH for emergency treatment and is now in a stable condition.

One local resident, who did not want to be named, said: 'I heard that a man was really badly beaten up at the weekend and I was quite surprised.

'I have lived in Moorpark for 15 years and there definitely used to be more trouble than there is now, but every town centre has its share of problems nowadays.

'There is a building site next to where the attack apparently happened so it would have been a bit deserted at that time of night.'

Police have now launched an appeal to Gazette readers for any information that will lead to a successful arrest.

A Strathclyde Police spokesperson said: 'I can confirm that enquiries are ongoing and three males and a female may have been involved in the attack.'

If you saw anything at around 12.45am on Sunday May 17, please phone CID on 01505 404000.

Or you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 where your call will remain anonymous.

In an effort to curb violence and antisocial behaviour, Renfrew police officers have been working with Renfrewshire Council to provide positive alternatives.

The popular Youthbus and five-a-sides football will be situated in Moorpark Square on Thursday and Saturday evenings.
