A RENFREW man has been left fighting for his life after he was allegedly stabbed in the town.

It is believed the man was walking to his partner's home when he was allegedly attacked on Wednesday July 14.

The 48-year-old suffered stab wounds to the stomach and was rushed to the Southern General Hospital after he was found in Canal Street around 8.20pm.

The victim lost a lot of blood and had to have emergency surgery to remove a kidney and his spleen.

He remains in a critical condition in hospital.

A doctor has told the Gazette that although his injuries are traumatic he should make a full recovery.

He said: "The patient will not require any dialysis treatment as the other kidney will take over and there should be no adverse effects on his health.

"The injury to the spleen will also have been traumatic but many people have had this organ removed and lead a perfectly normal, healthy life."

Two teenagers, aged 16 and 17, were arrested on Thursday and charged with attempted murder.

They will appear in Paisley Sheriff Court in the near future.

This is the second alleged murder bid in Renfrew in two weeks.

On Friday July 2, a 36-year old-man from India is believed to have been the victim of an attack in Thomson Street.

He was walking past a gang of youths when it is alleged that they pounced on him, kicking and stamping on his head, knocking him unconscious.

It was originally thought that he had been released from hospital but police have now confirmed that he is still in a serious condition.

It is believed that he is in a coma following the attack and doctors are concerned he may have brain damage.

Dylan Cherrie, 16 and a co-accused, 15, who is too young to be named have been charged with attempted murder.

Cherrie was remanded in custody and the younger boy was released on bail with curfew conditions.
