A RENFREW man has been charged with attempted murder following an attack on Paisley Road.
The 40-year-old victim was allegedly stabbed in broad daylight - across the street from Three Bears, a children’s nursery.
It was claimed that he was knifed in the stomach as he walked along the road.
Police cordoned off a 200-yard stretch of Paisley Road and only allowed buses through as they investigated the incident - which took place between 3.15 and 3.30pm on Thursday.
He was taken by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital where he is being treated for stab wounds. Hospital staff described his condition as critical but stable.
Stephen Mullen, 36, of Victoria Drive East, Renfrew, appeared on petition at Paisley Sheriff Court on Monday charged with attempted murder and is alleged to have assaulted the man by stabbing him on the body with a knife to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement.
Mullen made no plea or declaration during his brief appearance in chambers represented by defence agent Gordon Ritchie.
He was remanded in custody by Sheriff Mhari MacTaggart who continued the case against him for further examination.
