After visiting all 70 Commonwealth nations, the relay culminated in a 40-day tour of Scotland before the start of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Glasgow, North Ayrshire, and Perth and Kinross councils were the biggest spenders..

The main costs involved entertainment, traffic management, and publicity.

And it was revealed that Renfrewshire council also spent a total of £1,207 on confetti cannons for the Games.

A spokesman for the local authority said: “Renfrewshire’s QBR route took in all of our 15 towns and villages to enable as many people as possible to enjoy what proved to be an inspirational day. That effort was rewarded with tens of thousands of people turning out — a far higher attendance proportionately than many other areas - and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive.

“Regarding cost, we secured £10,000 in external funding.

“The work done in relation to the QBR relay continued the council’s commitment to supporting our communities and putting events at the centre of our economic regeneration and tourism strategies. That has included Paisley hosting an opening stage of the Monte Carlo rally, and the well-established Christmas Lights switch-on ceremony in Paisley which attracts almost 40,000 people every year.”
