The first incident happened around 4.10pm on Saturday, December 13 at an ATM machine near the Cenotaph in Paisley town centre.

A 73-year-old woman was withdrawing money from the machine when a man came up behind her and grabbed the money from the machine. He then ran off onto Gilmour Street towards the train station.

The second incident happened around 3pm on Sunday December 14 at an ATM machine outside Tesco in Newmains Road, Renfrew.

A 56 year-old woman was withdrawing money from the machine when a man came up behind her and grabbed the money from the machine before making off in the direction of Lismore Avenue in Arkleston.

Police believe that the same man is responsible for both incidents and he is described as white, 5ft 9 – 6ft in height and of medium build with dark-coloured hair. He is wearing a dark-coloured jacket and trousers with black trainers that had a white sole.

Detective Constable James Craig of Paisley Police Office saidy: “The two locations where the robberies took place are extremely busy, and I am sure that there are people that saw this man approaching both victims. Also if anyone was in these areas around the times of the incidents and witnessed anything suspicious, then please come forward.

“I would also ask people be extra vigilant when using cash machines and to be aware of who is standing behind you.” Anyone with information regarding the robberies should contact Police Scotland on the non-emergency number 101.
