A Johnstone mum was slashed across the face in front of her terrified young son while being robbed by two women.

Shocked Cheryle McCurday says she was walking with four-year-old son Kenny to buy some morning rolls when she was viciously attacked outside the town"s Sycamore Street shops.

Two sick blade thugs mugged the mum-of-one in broad daylight in January - then one of the violent women took out a knife and cut the Johnstone Castle resident on her right cheek before spitting on her.

Police officers recovered vital evidence at the scene, but no one has yet been arrested for the brutal offence.

Cheryle, 25, said: 'I was going to the shops at 9.30am when these two women grabbed me and asked for money.

'I said I wouldn"t give them anything and then they tried to steal my bag.

'My son was starting to get upset and holding on to me but they got the bag.

'Then one of them took out a knife and slashed me on the face.

'My son was crying and I went to get help.

'I think they did it because I stood up to them.'

Cheryle says that the violent girl neds only got away with a few pounds from her purse.

She added: 'I got slashed for just a few pounds in front of my son.

'I think it"s disgusting and I hope they get caught.

'I am scared in case they come after me again.'

Her appalled dad took a picture of his daughter"s injuries on his mobile phone before she was treated in hospital.

Cops took spit samples from the victim"s coat in a bid to match DNA in the saliva and say they are continuing to probe the incident.

If anyone has any information on this assault, which took place earlier this year, call Johnstone Police on 01505 404000.
