A speeding young driver who killed a teen in a horror crash after losing control of a powerful car was jailed for two years and nine months.
Police accident investigators estimated that Jamie Ross, from Elderslie, was travelling at more than 50 mph in a Subaru Impreza in a 30 mph zone at the collision.
A witness saw the car being driven slowly past a speed camera before the driver put his foot down and 'took off', a court heard.
A survivor of the crash later said to police: 'I told him: "Slow down, you don"t accelerate into a corner"'.
Passenger in the car, apprentice mechanic Christopher Gribben, 18, suffered multiple injuries in the collision and died in hospital later the same day.
Lord Brodie said Mr Gribben"s death had caused 'very great pain' to his family.
He said: 'This was not an accident. Initially you were driving at no more than 30 mph at the stage when you passed the speed camera. But almost immediately thereafter you used harsh acceleration as you went into a left hand bend.'
