THE principal of the University of the West of Scotland has been given a gong in the Queen's New Year Honours list.

Principal and vice-Chancellor, Profession Seamus McDaid has been made Commander of the British Empire (CBE) for services to Higher Education.

The list was announced on Saturday and those honoured will collect their awards at a future date.
