£2m design centre will be 'world class'
AN up-and-coming Inchinnan firm has unveiled an ambitious plan to bring a "world class" £2m product design centre to Renfrewshire.
If funding can be secured Meso Design bosses hope the new centre could be up and running by next year, with an as yet unnamed site in Renfrewshire the desired location.
Meso Design - which beat Rolls Royce to win the 2011 ROCCO Award for Innovation and Technology - hit the headlines last year when Holywood star Tom Hanks showed a personal interest in a smartphone device developed by the company which allows iPhones to be used as instant cameras.
And now the firm - formed in 2008 by Glasgow School of Art product design graduates Danny Kane, Gregor Aikman and Craig Lynn - wants to harness the appeal of similar products and establish Scotland as a centre of design excellence through the multi-million pound project.
Meso Design chiefs revealed its plan after the visit of Scottish Government Finance Minister John Swinney to its Inchinnan business park HQ last week.
The proposed innovation hub would combine Meso's design, engineering and manufacturing processes under one roof, and provide education and conference facilities for the design sector.
And they hope the creation of the centre will also help nurture the next generation of innovative product design talent in Scotland.
