AROUND £40,000 will be spent illuminating a well-used path behind Johnstone High School.

The path - which links Spateston and Cochrane Castle - is often used by school pupils and residents during the day, but is something of a "no go" area at night due to a complete lack of lighting.

But with council chiefs expecting numbers using the path to increase further when the new Johnstone High Sports Hub opens, they have moved to make it safer for pedestrians and cyclists alike.

The path will be lit from Auchengreoch Avenue to Tannahill Crescent, with improvements made to the existing footpath surface and vegetation alongside the path cut back.

The work is scheduled to begin in the coming weeks.
