MET office issues weather warning

THE Met Office has updated its rain warning to Amber (be prepared) for several parts of Scotland today.
Heavy and persistent rainfall is expected in much of Strathclyde.
This will lead to a risk of flooding and surface water on roads, which is likely to cause some disruption in travel in these areas, particularly during the evening rush hour when the rain is expected to begin to ease away.
Transport Minister Keith Brown confirmed that usual preparations were in place to monitor the network, he said "The Scottish Government's Resilience Room (SGoRR) met this morning and Transport Scotland's Multi-Agency Response Team (MART) is also keeping a close eye on the situation.
"The Amber warning lasts until 6pm tonight and we will continue to monitor the forecast closely and work with partners to ensure the public is kept updated.
"The latest travel information will be available throughout the day at the Traffic Scotland website, on VMS signs, via the internet and media.
I would once again urge the public to check before they travel for the latest information and also to take extra care when travelling throughout the day."
Stewart Prodger from SEPA's Flood Unit said: "Heavy rain has caused significant rises in river levels, particularly in the Central Belt.
"SEPA will be monitoring the situation 24/7 and would urge those living, working or travelling through flood risk areas to remain vigilant and use Floodline on 0845 988 11 88 or online at http://floodline.sepa.org.uk/floodupdates/ for updated Flood Warnings."
