Renfrewshire’s Community Safety Wardens will be patrolling hotspots for idling cars as part of a new campaign to highlight the issue.
School roads experience high levels of pollution from parents who are simply dropping off or picking up their child from school.
Parents are being urged to take up healthier school journeys, such as walking or car sharing, to reduce the number of vehicles during peak times.
Councillor Eddie Devine, convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Environment Policy Board, said, “We are tackling engine idling on the school run, where often a large number of vehicles gather.
“The campaign will tackle a number of hotspot areas and our wardens will be encouraging parents to ditch the car to not only improve air quality but also improve road safety outside schools.” The engine idling campaign will run throughout April.
