Mum-of-two Gail Fraser was one of 132 Cordia employees recognised at the Long Service Awards, held in Glasgow City Chambers.

The annual event, held in the historic Banqueting Hall, saw staff members individually recognised for a quarter of a century’s work serving the people of the city.

Lord Provost Sadie Docherty joined Cordia managing director David Melvin and the organisation’s chair, Bailie Mohammed Razaq, in paying tribute to the Cordia workers — who have a combined 3,330-year record of service.

Every area of service provided by the Glasgow City Council’s arm’s length organisation was represented, from school and public building catering staff to crossing patrollers, janitors, home carers and Cordia’s administration staff.

Gail, 44, said, “I had a really great day out at the awards. I think it’s fantastic that Cordia hold them every year.

“There’s not many people in the same job for 25 years and it’s good to be recognised by the company.

“I love my job, and it’s great because no two days are the same. I work with lots of different people, and I love the variation.” As well as a well-earned day off, the staff members and their invited guests were treated to a lavish lunch prepared by their colleagues from the Encore Hospitality Services, the hospitality arm of Cordia.

Every person recognised received an engraved Cordia long service medal, a certificate and the day off to attend the awards lunch with a guest of their choice. Mr Melvin himself also collected his medal on the day in recognition of his 25-year service.

David Melvin, Cordia managing director, said: “The awards were about recognising the contributions of our staff over many years and on behalf of the Cordia Board, and the senior management team, I would like to Gail and every other recipient for their continued dedication to their jobs.” Gail has been an operations manager for quarter of a century in the Castlemilk area, and is in charge of managing catering, janitorial and cleaning services. Her colleague Helena Hailstone joined her at the awards.
