Cameron Evans, from Renfrew, and his cousin Antony Evans, both 12, are supporting one another to become professionals in the sporting career of their dreams.

The talented pair have won more than 50 trophies amongst each other in the last year alone.

Now they hope their achievements will be recognised by sponsors in a bid to climb their way to the top.

Cameron, a first year Trinity High pupil is the only Scottish youngster to compete in the British Go Kart Championships, one of the hardest competitions in the world.

And, thanks to his super sporting skills, a delighted Cameron has also scooped a Young Achievers Award — despite only starting out three years ago.

He told The Gazette: “It was a great feeling and I’m so happy to have been recognised for what I do.

“I went to ScotKart one day just for a bit of fun but after it I thought, I’m actually quite good at this.

“I started going every few weekends and I knew that’s when I wanted to start doing it professionally.

“You get a real buzz out of being on the track. I loved football but karting is definitely my number one sport.” His cousin Antony is also a footballer for the Dundee United Pro Youth team, something which he dreams will lead to big things in future.

The pair were born within a day of one another, Cameron on February 1, 2002, and Anthony a day later.

Cameron’s dad, Campbell, 45, told The Gazette: “Both of them are really talented young lads and both so determined.

“Racing is such an expensive sport so the next thing is to hope that someone can sponsor Cameron to keep his racing career going.

“Cameron and Antony have showed commitment to their sports all year round.

“It’s funny because they were both born within a day of one another and both are really good at the sports they concentrate on.

“Cameron knows how expensive it is to keep him racing so, when he won £100 for the Scottish Championships race he said, ‘dad, I wan’t you to have it because you’ve paid for all my races.” Young Cameron is currently a Honda Cadet, but has ambitions to become a Formula 1 racer when he grows up.

He hopes to one day follow in the footsteps of his hero, legendary F1 racer, Lewis Hamilton.

“Lewis is my idol,” the schoolboy said. “My dream is to become a Formula 1 racer one day.

“When I started off the competitions I was doing around 45 miles an hour but now I’m up to 65.

“It can be a bit nervewracking before starting but once you’re on the tracks it’s great.

“I’d also love to compete over in Daytona, which is the capital for motor sports.” Because it is such an expensive sport, the dedicated youngster must now attempt to find sponsorship for his future races.

His dad Campbell said: “Motor sports can be quite an expensive hobby to get into. Sometimes it can be as much as thousands of pounds even to enter a race.

“Hopefully we can find a sponsor or a team that will help Cameron with motor racing. We just want to see him doing what he loves.” Could you help sponsor this young man and help him achieve his dreams? If so contact the Evans family through Facebook at www.facebook.com/cameronevansracing
