But fitness guru Craig McGinlay has swapped training in the gym to star in an exciting new whisky commercial alongside David Beckham.

Renowned coach Craig, from Paisley, was cast in the advert for Haig Club whisky by director Guy Ritchie. It was launched on Friday, October 17.

The 28-year-old was the only actor to be cast from Scotland which was filmed in the Highlands in September this year.

Speaking of his latest role working alongside football star Beckham, Craig said: “It’s been fantastic, I’ve loved every minute of it.

“Because of my background in sports science and fitness I see David as an inspiration as he also has a lot of the same passions as me.

“He was a really nice guy and great to work with. It was nice to have a bit of a blether with him about football.” In a teaser clip of the advert, Corsebar-born Craig can be seen clad in a burgundy suit jacket raising a toast alongside Beckham and other party guests.

Set in the stunning backdrop of the Scottish Islands, the advert weaves together a series of epic journeys made by a group of friends, as they head towards an estate in Glen Affric near Inverness to share a weekend together.

The action culminates in a celebratory toast showing the group raising a glass of Haig Club before revealing a similar toast moment with the same group of friends in numerous locations across the globe, from Antarctica to Madagascar.

Sporting his signature red beard, Craig can then be seen fixing his bow tie to prepare for the whisky-fuelled get-together.

“I went for the first audition a while back and to be honest I thought nothing of it as first,” Craig said.

“Then I got asked to go to a recall down in London and Guy Ritchie was there — that’s when I realised the advert might be a lot bigger than I thought.

“When I was told I had the part I was ecstatic. It took about five days to film up in the Highlands.

“It’s been an amazing opportunity for me and I think it’s made me realise this is what I want to do.

“I’m moving down to London to take up acting full time. Then, if I do well, I might consider LA from there.” Craig, who played rugby for Scotland Under 18s, landed his big break after standing in as a weightlifter in a Glasgow 2014 brand-launch advert last year.

And after scouts were impressed by his muscular physique and rugged looks, he was asked to become part of a modelling and acting agency.

“It was totally by chance that I fell into modelling,” Craig said. “After the advert for the Commonwealth Games, I was asked to go along for an audition to act so I just took a chance and went for it. It’s been brilliant ever since and I’ve travelled to New York, London and a few other places for jobs.

“After I got into adverts and I was then asked to audition for a feature film which is to be released next year. I ended up getting the part.” His latest achievement isn’t the only big venture for part-time model Craig, who is also set to star in an action-packed US advert for Land Rover which has been James Bond’s current writer, William Boyd.

Boyd, paid in the low six figures for the project, said he signed on because Land Rover made so few requests.

The advert was released just yesterday (Tuesday) and will see Craig carrying out a series of stunts for the advert.

“I think the Land Rover advert is the one I’m most proud of,” he said. “It involves car chases, martial arts fighting and a few different stunts.

“I had to go clean shaven for it and get rid of my beard as they wanted more of a clean-cut, Daniel Craig style look.” In the last seven months, Craig has also completed a clutch of short films and his first main role in a full-length feature in The Fairy Flag.

But he is still making sure he fits in some gruelling physical workouts, which include him being trained by George Johnston who trained Matt Damon for the Bourne films, Christian Bale for Batman and Daniel Craig for Bond ahead of his role in upcoming vampire film Dark Haven.

“I’ve always looked up to Christopher Reeves who played Superman, so any type of films like that which might come up I’d be more than happy to accept,” Craig laughs.

“I’m open to a range of role types really but I wouldn’t say no to James Bond either. My next step is just trying to get my name out there. I’m excited to see what happens.”
