A recent awards ceremony at Paisley Town Hall for the Renfrewshire Coaching, Officiating & Volunteering (COV) Awards saw key figures from the local sporting scene thanked for their contribution.

The awards are a joint initiative between Renfrewshire Council and sportscotland with local sports teams and clubs providing the nominees.

Ten outstanding individuals were picked from over 50 nominees and received a certificate of recognition, a plaque and a £100 cheque. Each award winner will now be automatically entered into sportscotland’s national COV Awards later in the year.

Representatives from local Community Sports Hubs were recognised on the night for their work in establishing the new local sports networks.

Councillor Stuart Clark, depute convener of the Sport, Leisure and Culture and Policy Board, said: “It was a pleasure to meet all of the winners and get the opportunity to thank them for their immense contribution to the local sporting scene. Participation in sport is crucial to everything the council wants to achieve, from improving health to building self- confidence and employability in young people.

“It’s hugely encouraging to see the work done by Renfrewshire Sports Services to stimulate interest in sport. Together with our COV winners, their dedication and hard work is central to ensuring excellent sporting opportunities for all of Renfrewshire.”
