Teams of officers swooped on Thrushcraig Crescent just after 8am yesterday morning after a passer-by claimed a rifle was being pointed out of a ground-floor window.
Uniformed cops soon joined the scene and, at around 9am, a 31-year-old man was detained as he left a tenement building in the area.
The incident sparked concern on social media site Facebook yesterday afternoon as the flat is a short distance from St Charles' Primary School.
Last night, Inspector Stuart Thompson, os Paisley Police Office, said reports of firearm incidents are dealt with swiftly and will full use of police procedures.
He added: "At no time during this incident were members of the public in any danger.
"We responded with a large police presence because any allegation of a firearm offence must be taken very seriously."
