Parents, staff and supporters of Corseford School have been fund raising for a long time to make the dream of this state-of-the-art facility become a reality.

And now, with just weeks to go to Christmas it has secured a £20,000 grant from the People’s Postcode Lottery.

There were cheers all round when Radio DJ George Bowie cut the ribbon on the amazing digital sensory theatre art room which will be transformed into a winter wonderland in the run up to the festive season with falling snowflakes, crackling fires, the smell of Christmas tree and the sensation of the wind swirling the snow around.

Renfrewshire South MSP Hugh Henry who has been a supporter of the Capability Scotland School for a number of years donating money to their effort instead of using it to send Christmas cards from his office, was invited along as a special guest.

And the politician was delighted to be involved in such a memorable day for everyone who saw the project take shape from an idea to a reality.

Mr Henry said: “I know how hard everyone has worked over a long period of time and it is wonderful that the children have this new and incredible room to use on a daily basis. I remember when I sat in a room with the head teacher and heard about it and what it could do.

“Now it is here and that is testimony to everyone involved. I was delighted to attend the opening of the theatre which is a dream come true for dedicated staff, devoted parents and generous supporters who have been working tirelessly to raise funds to make it possible.

“Now with the help of a £20,000 grant from the People’s Postcode Lottery they have reached their target and the pupils can enjoy this truly staggering state of the art technology as part of the school curriculum.

“With its wind machines, projectors, aroma panels and fog machines the theatre will provide a completely immersive experience for the boys and girls who can be transported to a magical world of their choice such as a winter wonderland or even a Grand Prix with sounds and vibrations.

“I was astounded at how the theatre works and how much it can bring to the children. It can also be used to create a soothing sensory environment or as part of a therapeutic exercise session. It’s always a pleasure and enlightening experience to visit Corseford and I would like to congratulate everyone who worked so hard to make this possible for the children.”
