It is understood the man was struck on the back of the head with a bottle or glass in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Moments later, the 28-year-old was battered by a gang of thugs leaving him with head wounds.
He was taken to Paisley’s Royal Alexandra Hospital where he was treated for his injuries before being released.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the attack which happened in the Attic Bar in Vienna’s nightclub, 20 New Street, Paisley.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 28-year-old male was the victim of an assault by a group of males and sustained a head injury.
“Please could anyone who was within the nightclub and witnessed the incident or if you have any other information which you think could assist the enquiry please contact us on 101 or if you would rather remain anonymous then contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
