This is the emotional moment a treasure trail around Glasgow ended in a romantic proposal for one bride-to-be.

Nicola, 26 and Stuart, 28, of Glasgow, got engaged at George Square in front of the Christmas tree - seven years after they met on a Christmas night out.

Nicola was treated to a romantic day filled with seven special surprises after Stuart spent months planning a fairytale treasure-trail around Glasgow.

Glasgow Times:

The 26-year-old, who was heading to work in the city centre, found an envelope in her car, kickstarting a day she will never forget.

Nicola said: "I got up to go to work and I found a note in my car. It was our anniversary, and I never thought anything of it except Stuart was being romantic."

"All it said was there were going to be surprises and it told me to head to work."

Glasgow Times:

When Nicola arrived at work, her manager who was in on the surprise, handed her a second note only for a shocked Nicola to discover she was on holiday.

"Stuart had roped all my family into his plans and the second note told me to call my mum. She asked me to meet her at Silverburn and pretended she didn't know why. When I got there, she had money and another note to buy a fancy outfit."

Stuart's love notes led Nicola from Silverburn shopping centre to a salon where she received a bouquet of flowers and was treated to a pampering session.

Heading home, she found a bottle of wine and the second last note advising her to relax and get ready for a dinner with his sister.

She said: "Stuart was supposed to be at training so his sister had arranged to pick me up and we were going to a 'new' hotel in town."

Glasgow Times:

"After she picked me up and we were driving into Glasgow I got suspicious and wondered if he was going to propose. But his sister acted like nothing was wrong and kept talking about our dinner."

The pair parked at Glasgow's iconic George Square and Stuart's sister stopped Nicola in her tracks in front of the Christmas tree.

She said: "Stuart's sister pulled out the final note and asked me to read it out loud. I had no idea was was about to happen.

"In the video, Stuart hid behind me just as I read 'if you turn around around slowly, you'll find me down on one knee'...and as soon as I saw him I burst into tears."

Glasgow Times:

Big-hearted Stuart had thought of everything as it turned out, Nicola's family were all watching behind the tree as the magical moment unfolded.

The couple said: "It was perfect. Everyone was crying. All these people kept stopping to say congratulations and they were clapping."

The pair celebrated their engagement in Glasgow's Anchor Line restaurant after Stuart proposed with the 'perfect ring' in front of spectators at George Square.

Their engagement video and pictures of Nicola's day has attracted hundreds of well-wishers after she posted the event on Facebook.
