Scottish fans of one of the biggest-selling female artists of all time have hit out at and labelled the ticket process as “a shambles” as issues surface over quantity and price.

Céline Dion and ticket officials are beginning to feel the effects of a fan backlash on the day tickets went on general sale with many facing the reality that they will not be able to head to the Hydro to see their idol.

Her team announced on Tuesday morning at 7am that she is to bring her live 2017 UK and European tour to the Glasgow venue on August 5 - her first visit since her last performance at the SECC 21 years ago.

Presale tickets went on sale at 9am on the day for members of her Team Céline fan club - even though no warning email went out to members beforehand.

For those who were savvy enough to catch a social media announcement from her official Facebook and Twitter pages, tickets were snapped up for as little at £51.10 within minutes.

However, on general sale day at 9am today, fans have taken to Twitter to hit out at the process as full price prices are being advertised as little at £51.10.

However, when it comes to purchasing, they are actually listed as an eye-watering £170 each on Ticketmaster.

Confusingly, Ticketmaster’s resale site GETMEIN! is showing a plentiful supply of tickets.

But starting at £143 per ticket, the cost is still too much for fans to bear.

The SSE Hydro attempted to clarify the situation and told the Evening Times “there are still tickets available to buy,” but urged fans to bear in mind that, when it’s an artist as big as Céline, tickets will go fast.

A spokesperson said: “Ticket prices were listed as £51.10, including admin fee, rising to £170.25, including admin fee.

“They are available from thessehydro.com or on 0844 395 4000.”

A Ticketmaster spokesperson added that there are “plenty of things” fans can do before tickets go on sale, but very little after which can see thousands of tickets go within just minutes.

The ticket provider added: “GET ME IN!  is a safe and secure marketplace where fans can buy and resell tickets, with all purchases backed by our industry-leading fan guarantee.

“Unfortunately, there are always going to be some fans who can’t get hold of the most highly sought-after tickets when they first go on sale, and GET ME IN! provides them with a chance to get hold of those most in-demand tickets.

“Ticketmaster does all it can to help artists get tickets into the hands of fans and we never place tickets on secondary market sites.”
