Pupils at an Erskine high school have been praised for helping to raise thousands of pounds for the family of a teen found dead close to the building.

Owen MacDonald’s body was discovered near Park Mains High School - adjacent to Rashielee Avenue - in the early hours of Sunday morning by three men who were making their way to a petrol station.

Now, though, the big-hearted students of S5 have set up a JustGiving page.

In just 12 hours, the page is already close to smashing its £5,000 target as hundreds flock to both donate and pay tribute to the 16-year-old.

An online Erskine community page has also described how there is the possibility of a rugby match to be held in Owen’s honour.

The page added: “Rev Fleming is going to speak to the school and young people today and, hopefully, a course of action will be set.

Glasgow Times:

“At this time, the best thing we can do is be led by the young people taking the initiative, and support them in what they, and Owen’s family, want and need.”

Park Mains head teacher, Michael Dewar, described the news as “tragic” and said in a statement on the school’s site: “The thoughts of the whole school community are with his family and friends at this very sad time.”

He continued: “As the majority of senior pupils are now on study leave for exams, a special assembly has been arranged for S5 pupils and any of Owen’s close friends in the school on Wednesday, May 3 at 3.15pm.

“Ongoing support is available for all pupils and those who wish to access support should contact their guidance teachers in the first instance.”

Erskine Parish Church has also made available a book of condolence in the building as of Tuesday evening.

The church said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the family and friends of Owen MacDonald at this painful time.”

Police confirmed Owen’s identity on Monday.

Officers also confirmed a post mortem has been carried out and the death of the teenager is being treated as unexplained.
