The mother of missing RAF gunner Corrie McKeague has said police “still feel confident” they will find him in a landfill site five months after they started their search.

Updating the public in the Find Corrie group she set up in the aftermath of her son’s disappearance, Nicola Urquhart described how she is starting “another week of waiting”

Issuing a statement late on Sunday night, Ms Urquhart said: “After a long drive back to Scotland, that’s us about to start another week of waiting.

“There is not much more I can say this week, other than the police still feel confident they will find Corrie in the landfill, so [they] continue to search.

“All I can do is try to remain positive. The police are still searching so there is still hope. Thank you again for all your kind messages and continued support.”

She also shared a photo of her son prior to a night out with his brother Darroch, adding: “The photo I’m sharing melts my heart. It is last summer on one of the times Corrie came home for a visit.

“Darroch and Corrie were getting ready to go out with their friends. Both walked out their bedrooms wearing exactly the same outfit not knowing what the other was wearing.

“Some might then change. Not these two, they were both delighted.”

It is now 42 weeks since the Fife man, 23, vanished after a night out with friends in Bury St Edmunds on September 24 last year.

Police believe he may be in a landfill site in Milton, Cambridgeshire, and have been searching the area since early February.

A bin lorry was seen on CCTV near Brentgovel Street in the town around the time Mr McKeague was last seen, and it took a route which appeared to coincide with the movements of his phone.

The lorry linked to his disappearance was initially thought to have collected an 11kg (1st 10lb) load, but police said it was later found to be more than 100kg (15st 10lb).
