RANGERS striker Michael O’Halloran “regrets” sitting with Celtic supporters at the Scottish Cup Final.

The 27-year-old was snapped surrounded by Hoops fans at Hampden on Saturday as they celebrated their side’s historic Double Treble.

The image was widely-shared on social media with the footballer coming under fierce criticism from the Light Blues side.

Now, though, his agent Kenny Moyes insists O’Halloran, went to the game as a “neutral.”

Moyes said: “Michael didn’t realise he would be surrounded by Celtic fans but hindsight is a great thing and he now regrets the decision as he accepts it doesn’t look too good.

“I know he is taking some stick from the Rangers fans but he absolutely wasn’t at Hampden as a Celtic supporter. He’s a Rangers player.”

“He is concerned at how it looks to the Rangers supporters but he thought he would be in a neutral section and didn't realise until it was too late,” he added, reports the Daily Record.

The debacle comes just days after the Evening Times was first to report how O’Halloran was hit with vile sectarian abuse after he was pictured at a chapel.

The footballer popped by Holy Family RC Mossend last week to speak to young people about growing up while going to a Catholic school.

In 24 hours, the post gained a lot of attention locally. However, some of the attention drew shocking comments across social media.

One Twitter user wrote: “So Michael O’Halloran had a nice wee scummy t***y pape day oot.

“That’s nice.

“Fenian b******.”
