A LOCHWINNOCH mum, known for her extensive work in the community, is to receive a special recognition.

Corinne Hutton, who has raised thousands of pounds for good causes, is to become a freewoman of Renfrewshire.

Provost Anne Hall and councillor Brian Lawson put a motion before members of the council board calling for her to be formally recognised.

It states: “Council notes the outstanding contribution which Corinne Hutton, a resident of Renfrewshire, has made in respect of her involvement in charity work for the benefit of the people of Renfrewshire and beyond.

“In recognition of that contribution, Renfrewshire Council formally resolves that Corinne Hutton be admitted as an honourary freewoman of Renfrewshire.”

Corinne was left a quadruple amputee after losing her hands and feet to septicaemia in June 2013.

The brave 44-year-old then set up the charity, Finding Your Feet, which provides a support network to amputees and those with limb deficiency through emotional, financial and practical support and through the creation of opportunities in sport and recreation.

Recently, the charity teamed up with Scottish Premiership club Partick Thistle in a bid to bring amputee football to Scotland for the first time.

Since her illness, Corinne has succeeded in raising hundreds of thousands of pounds to help other amputees and more recently became the first female quadruple amputee in history to conquer Ben Nevis.

Andy Doig, councillor for Johnstone North, Kilbarchan and Lochwinnoch, said Corinne deserved the honour for her "fortitude and dignity".

“There are a great many worthy community activists in my ward, but I am delighted that Corinne Hutton has been awarded the Freedom of Renfrewshire," he said.

“I can think of no-one who deserves it more, for her relentless charity work for those who have suffered the same health challenges as herself.

“Corinne has faced these personal challenges with fortitude and dignity, and with outstanding compassion, and I congratulate her on the honour bestowed, which is so richly deserved.”
