HUNDREDS of fluffy white paws padded their way through Lochwinnoch for the area’s first ever Westie Walk.

The event was a great success with 80 West Highland White Terriers, one Labrador, two Schnauzers and around 100 people turning up at Castle Semple for a stroll and picnic on Sunday.

The walk allowed groups of pooch lovers the chance to congregate for a chat and to let their canine friends meet.

Westies Rescued UK raised £1,110 for the organisation with more donations coming in from those who wanted to attend but couldn’t make it.

The day began at the Castle Semple visitor centre and ended with a picnic, home baking, raffle and mingle.

Raffle prizes included a range of doggie treats including Westie jumpers, collars and shampoos.

There was also be a competition judging the dogs with categories including cutest, youngest and oldest dog.

McRae was the furthest travelled with a 600-mile trip and was also awarded the ASBO rosette.

Daisy was the youngest Westie in attendance and Ben was the oldest, while Jimmy was named the ‘smelliest’ Westie.

There were numerous party tricks from the dogs including dancing and paw-clapping.

Event coordinators and Westies Rescued UK volunteers Loraine Higgins, Nicole Robertson and Carol Riches were delighted with the turn out.

Nicole said: “Castle Semple Lochwinnoch Westie Walk was our most successful walk to date.

“We had a wonderful turn out with around 80 Westies turning up to support us, it was fantastic the response we got.

“Westies Rescued UK raised much needed funds to help us support the Westies in our care.

“We look forward to our next Westie walk at Vogrie Edinburgh on September 25.”
