Renfrewshire runner Callum Hawkins turned in a stunning personal best to finish as the top British athlete in the London Marathon.

The Kilbarchan Amateur Athletics Club star came in home in eighth place to secure his place at the Rio Olympics in the summer.

His brother Derek, 26, also put himself in the picture for Brazil by finishing close behind his sibling in 14th place with fellow Scot Tsegai Tewelde finishing 12th.

Callum, 23, finished in a time of two hours, ten minutes and 53 seconds ahead of the world record holder Dennis Kimetto of Kenya who finished in ninth place.

The winner was Kenya's Eliud Kipchoge who completed the race in two hours, three minutes and five second with his compatriot Stanley Biwott 46 second behind in second place.

Callum's excellent performance means he will travel with the UK team to Brazil along with Tewelde while Derek could also be heading to Rio if the selectors decide to exercise their discretion in his favour.
