A BOUNCER left a man scarred for life after they got involved in a scuffle outside a Paisley pub, a court has heard.

Onyeyilichukwu Obi, who is known as Duke, hit Kyle Cummings outside Cafe Borgia as a dispute about entry to the pub turned to violence.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard that 22-year-old Mr Cummings had tried to get into the popular nightspot, in New Street, but was turned away because he was too drunk and did not have ID.

An argument then broke out and Mr Obi, 28, hit Mr Cummings so hard that he hit his head off a fence, leaving him with a scar on his right cheek.

Mr Obi went on trial over the incident last week, charged with assault.

The court heard that the rammy, which took place on September 13, 2015, turned violent after Mr Cummings hurled racist abuse at Mr Obi.

Carina Craig, who was Mr Cummings' girlfriend at the time, said she heard her former partner calling Mr Obi "a n****r" and that Mr Obi then hit him.

The 19-year-old added: "The bouncer pushed Kyle.

"Kyle was kinda in his face and then they walked away and that's when it was said.

"After it, Kyle was lying down. I was shocked."

Bouncer Kevin Eadie, who was working on the door of Cafe Borgia with Mr Obi that night, said he saw the drama unfold after he had denied Mr Cummings entry.

The 40-year-old witness told the court: "Duke is Obi's nickname.

"Duke watched them (Mr Cummings and Miss Craig), they were walking up to the side door, so he followed them up.

"He (Mr Cummings) was saying 'what you moving me away from here for? I'm not in your pub, I'm nowhere near your pub.'

"That's when he started with his racially abusive remarks. It was basically, 'f*****g n****r.'

"Obi was about six feet away and started to walk towards him to speak to him. He said 'what did you say?'

"The guy went for Obi with his right hand. Obi obviously defended himself and retaliated and struck him once.

"He hit him once, it was just an open-handed slap.

"The male has basically went right back and hit his head off the side of the fence, the railings at the side. He got quite a sore one off the fence."

Mr Obi said he heard Mr Cummings calling him "a n****r" and "a black b*****d" before trying to hit him.

And he told defence solicitor Kevin Brady that he blocked Mr Cummings' attempted blow before hitting him back, sending him crashing to the ground.

At the end of the trial, the assault charge against Mr Obi was found not proven and he was told he was free to leave the dock.
