AN annual charity event in Bishopton is still going strong, more than 20 years after it was first staged.

The Christian Aid coffee morning and plant sale took place at the Cornerstone on Saturday, much to the delight of budding gardeners and sweet-toothed kids.

Home-baking went down a treat, while green-fingered guests went away with colourful plants of all shapes and sizes.

The event was run by the Christian Aid Committee, which is made up of members of Bishopton Parish Church and Our Lady of Lourdes Church.

Thanks to sales of plants and baking, as well as a raffle, a fantastic total of £700 was raised.

Christian Aid volunteer Margaret Blair told the Gazette: “We run this charity event every year and it has become very popular in the area.

“There was a variety of plants on offer, with the bedding plants being a particular hit.

“Everyone seemed to be very pleased with their purchases on the day.”

Margaret added: “A mix of guests came along, ranging from members of the church to children and families.

“We also had entertainment courtesy of Children From the Fiddlers workshop, which is based in Dunoon.

“It was a great day and we are looking forward to staging another fundraiser in the near future.”
