LOCHWINNOCH supermum Corinne Hutton reached new heights by tackling a sponsored abseil from a famous landmark.

She was one of 11 brave amputees, all supported by her Finding Your Feet charity, who climbed 150 feet to the top of the Titan Crane, in Clydebank, for the fundraising stunt.

Mum-of-one Corinne, 47, fell ill at the age of 43 after suffering acute pneumonia and septicaemia and surgeons were forced to amputate both of her arms and her legs, below the knee.

Back in March, she had to have two-thirds of one of her lungs removed due to bad scarring from the pneumonia and she is now waiting for the final third to grow and fill the space left behind.

Corinne admits the sponsored abseil proved to be quite a challenge.

She told the Gazette: “I am not good with heights but I am so glad I did it.

“I’m looking to abseil from the Kelpies, near Falkirk, next.

“I am by no means the most disadvantaged out of the amputees that did it. Some have vascular problems and diabetes, so it is so great that they follow me and my ethos of making sure you really live.

“The view was fabulous from up there. It was a case of not looking down though.

“I think people gain so much confidence from doing these things and it’s better than them drinking too much and being locked up away at home.”

Corinne aims to defy the odds again in July by taking on her first triathlon.

Finding Your Feet was founded by Corinne four years ago and supports those who have experienced limb loss and their families through sporting initiatives and social inclusion projects.
