HUNDREDS of people horsed around at the annual Houston Agricultural Show on Saturday.

Typically changeable Scottish weather didn’t dampen the spirits of visitors who took part in dog and horse competitions, a tug of war, a beat the goalie contest and Houston’s Got Talent, won by singer Amy Spearing.

Crowds also sampled the craft and food stalls on offer.

John McEvoy, chairman of the community council, told The Gazette: “The community council had a great day at the Houston Agricultural Show on Saturday.

“When the rain, hail and thunder struck for a while in the afternoon it didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of our volunteers or that of the residents who helped us to raise £543.50, every penny of which will go towards our projects like the Christmas lights and our flower planting programme.

“Special thanks go to Jason, of the Fox and Hounds, who donated a meal for four with wine for us to auction.

“It was won by a magnificent bid of £165.00 from Jim and Anne McGeachie.

“Thank you both very much of your generosity.

“Have a fantastic time using your voucher. I’m sure Dale and the rest of his team will make sure you have a night to remember.”

The show is held on the first Saturday of June every year at the village playing fields.

Several local businesses got involved including the much-loved Fox and Hounds pub which catered for the event.
