THERE was swashbuckling fun to be had as more than a thousand people joined in the celebrations at Lochwinnoch Gala Day.

This year’s event had a pirate theme, with plenty of colourful costumes on display.

People of all ages took part in the annual parade, which weaved its way through the village before reaching Lochwinnoch Public Park.

The gala day was then opened by local man Ronnie Brown, with gala queen Eleni Ioannou and attendants Cody Gemmill and Beth Garrow also there to greet the guests.

They were supported by ladies-in-waiting Niece Brown and Kaylee Marie Houston, along with carnival king and queen Abigail McGougan and Sonny Wishart.

Event co-ordinator Jane Owens said the gala day was a huge success, despite a wet start to proceedings.

She told the Gazette: “We were drenched to start with but the weather dried off in time for the parade and then the sun came out for the crowning of the queen.

“Everyone got into the spirit of the pirate theme and there were prizes for the best costumes.

“There were lots of stalls and there was fantastic music from Houston 1st Boys Brigade Pipe Band.

“Pulse Dance Academy also put on a display and children’s games were organised by Johnstone Community Sports Hub.”

Jane added: "I would like to say a big thank-you to all stallholders, supporters and participants.

“We hope that everyone who came along to the event had a great time.”
