PLANS are in place to create up to 100 jobs in Bridge of Weir by building a new care home, supermarket and cafe on the site of an abandoned garage.

Should the proposals for the former CH Bull and Sons site, in Kilmacolm Road, be approved, it would see the village getting its first care home.

As well as the 65-bed care home, developers hope to build an 8,000 sq ft supermarket and a coffee shop that would take up 2,000 sq ft.

There would also be 20 parking spaces for the care home, with an additional 70 spaces for retail parking.

CH Bull and Sons Limited closed down in November 2013.

It is proposed that the care home be erected on the southern part of the site, built over three storeys and incorporating a specialist dementia unit.

The planning application also outlines details of the supermarket and cafe.

It states: “Permission is sought to use the larger unit as a supermarket and the smaller unit as a coffee shop.

“The commercial units are provided with a total of 70 car parking spaces and will create in the region of 50 to 60 employment opportunities.”

Planning bosses at Renfrewshire Council are expected to consider the proposals in due course.
