BUDDING archaeologists have been digging for lost artefacts in Inchinnan.

Youngsters from the local primary school were invited along to the All Hallows dig site as part of a community archaeology project.

The National Lottery-funded initiative involves various activities, including geophysics, excavation, model church making, school visits, scanning medieval graves and enacting a sixth-century Gaelic service.

Inchinnan Historical Interest Group has been leading the dig at All Hallows, which lies within the boundaries of Glasgow Airport.

It is believed people first settled in the area in the sixth century, while a church dedicated to the Knights Templar was built in the 12th century.

There are even claims that the Holy Grail could have been buried at All Hallows, which predates the famous Rosslyn Chapel, in Midlothian, that featured in Dan Brown’s book ‘The Da Vinci Code.’

There will be another chance to visit the dig on September 2, when it features on the Doors Open Day programme.

Inchinnan Historical Interest Group is also planning a separate event on November 18, with further details to be announced nearer the time.
