MOTORISTS who were gearing up for disruption due to a major road closure have been handed a boost after Renfrewshire Council confirmed it will not take place.

It had been announced that Barochan Road, which runs north out of Houston, was to shut for three months to enable a new sliproad onto the A737 to be built.

However, council chiefs have now said the announcement was issued in error.

They have revealed that the slip road for the eastbound carriageway of the A737 will be widened in late spring but this will not require any roads to be closed.

A council spokesperson told The Gazette: “A road closure for Barochan Road was published in error and has been removed.

“The essential works to widen the A737 slip road are due to take place in late spring and should not require the road to be closed.”

The spokesperson added: “We will continue to work closely with the developer to ensure disruption to road users is kept to a minimum.”
