Nature enthusiasts paid a flying visit to the RSPB centre in Lochwinnoch for the chance to make birdhouses.

The rainy day activity took place over the weekend at the nature reserve, where people of all ages got involved in building wooden houses for their feathered friends.

The RSPB team host the event every year to prepare for birds starting to nest in April.

Simple wooden boxes were created for smaller garden birds such as blue tits, robins and sparrows.

And helpful staff were on hand to provide information about the boxes, such as where to put them in the garden for maximum benefit.

RSPB worker Carol McFadyen said: “We had a good turnout and it was a fun activity for families to get involved in during a rainy weekend.

“All the materials were laid out for participants and help was on hand for guests to build their very own birdhouses.

“It was good to see such a mixed group of people coming along to this event.”

Looking ahead, the Lochwinnoch reserve will host an open day from 11am to 3pm on Sunday, March 18.

The free event is designed to promote the RSPB base and allow potential new visitors to find out what the centre has to offer.

A number of fun activities will take place throughout the day, including a treasure hunt and storytelling.

There will also be a tombola and, to make sure no-one goes hungry, home baking will be on offer.
