A RENFREWSHIRE school is filling up its bookshelves, thanks to a donation from one of the UK’s largest residential developers.

Bishopton Primary received a £250 donation from Taylor Wimpey West Scotland to celebrate World Book Day.

The school now plans to get more pupils reading by using the cash boost to add to its library collection.

Lorna Campbell, the school’s literacy champion, said: “I would like to say a big thank you to Taylor Wimpey on behalf of everyone at our school. We really appreciate their donation.

“Books are a great way to fire up children’s imaginations and to teach them about the world around them, so it’s fantastic to be able to add some new titles to our school.”

The school, which is near Taylor Wimpey’s new Dargavel Village development, also received a copy of the company’s children’s book How we build your home with Millie Mortar and Handy Andy, which aims to educate children about housebuilding.

Audrey Ross, the firm’s sales and marketing director, said: “We hope our book will become a firm favourite with the children, explaining to them how the new homes in their area are built, as well as present some important health and safety messages about staying safe in building sites.”
