Avid runners are invited to take part in the annual Gryffe Valley 10k this weekend to raise money for sufferers of neurological diseases.

The route takes in the country lanes between Houston, Bridge of Weir and Kilmacolm, with the starting line at Houston Public Park.

All entry fees will go towards Glasgow-based charity Funding Neuro, which supports research into new treatments for Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis and brain tumours.

All participants will receive a medal, an official time and a goodie bag, while the top three men, women, under-18s, over-60s and highest sponsored individual and team will all be awarded trophies.

The popular event is being staged on Sunday, with all prospective runners, whether they are serious athletes or novice joggers, asked to gather at West Church Halls, in Houston, at 11am, where registration will take place.

Entry costs £12.50 in advance or £15 on the day.

Those aged 16 and 17 only have to pay £5.
