A HOUSTON girl who bravely battled cancer is now fit and well and starting primary school.

Little Megan Finn was diagnosed with a Wilms tumour in 2007 after her mum and dad found a swelling on her side.

The courageous tot endured six long months of chemotherapy at Yorkhill Hospital but is now fighting fit and keen to join her new classmates at Houston Primary.

Delighted mum Lesley, 33, said: "It is almost two years since Megan was diagnosed so to know that she is clear of the cancer is such a massive relief for us all.

"We will have to go back to hospital every three months for ultrasound checkups just to make sure, but luckily Megan's cancer was treatable.

"Looking back over the whole time, I'm just so glad it's finally over and she can have a normal life.

"She has been playing 'schools' with her big sister so she's well prepared."

The bright five-year-old is currently enjoying a holiday in Arran with her sisters Jessica, Alex, dad Martin, 34, and her grandparents.

Her dedicated band of supporters have raised a whopping £14,000 for charity since they found out Megan had cancer through wacky fundraisers such as 'pink parties' and mountain climbing expeditions.

The Finns are holding a fancy dress disco on October 3 at Houston Bowling Club and are appealing to Gazette readers to help them raise some much-needed cash for two children's charities.

Lesley added: "The last big fundraiser we held was in September where we raised £2,700 for CLIC Sargent and the Yorkhill Childrens Foundation.

"A local businessman had seen the story in the Gazette and came forward to donate prizes for our raffle.

"It was a huge help and we would love if anyone was able to do the same this time for the same charities.

"We would also welcome everyone to come along and join in - the nights are always great fun."

If any Renfrewshire businesses would like to donate prizes for this year's raffle, please phone Angela in the newsroom on 0141 435 8838 or email lesley.finn@talktalk.net.
