AN ELECTRICAL explosion has left a man seriously injured in hospital.
The 40-year-old man was badly burned after the accident at the Rolls Royce plant.
It is believed the man was working as an outside contractor for the firm and was cleaning an extractor machine when dust caught fire and exploded in his face.
The emergency services were called to the scene and the factory was evacuated.
The man suffered serious burns to his face, arms and hands and was rushed to the Royal Alexandra Hosptial before being transferred to Glasgow's Royal Infirmary burns unit.
A probe will now be launched into the accident after it left the man in a stable but serious condition.
A police spokesman confirmed they attended the incident at the site which is based in Inchinnan Industrial Estate on Saturday afternoon.
He said: "Police attended an incident at Rolls Royce last Saturday around midday.
"A 40-year-old male sustained burns to his face, hands and arms after a fire in the factory.
"He was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital before being transferred to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary Burns Unit.
"He is described as in a serious but stable condition and his injuries are not life-threatening."
A crew from Strathclyde Fire and Rescue attended along with ambulance personnel who treated the worker for his injuries before rushing him to hospital.
Staff were evacuated from the plant for their own safety until it was deemed safe for them to return to work.
A spokesperson for the Health and Safety Executive said: "The incident has not yet been reported to the Health and Safety Executive.
"The company have up to 10 days to report it and once it has been we will make further enquiries with a view of carrying out an investigation."
Rolls Royce employ around 1,000 workers from all across Renfrewshire at the local plant.
The company operate in the civil and defence aerospace, marine and energy markets and make compressor blades and seals for aircraft engines.
A spokesman from Rolls Royce declined to comment on the incident at the weekend.
