TWO brothers are hoping to put Lochwinnoch on the map by being crowned Fish and Chip Shop of the Year 2009.
Remo and Sergio own the village's La Dolce Vita chip shop and have made it into the top five regional final.
They got a visit from an anonymous judge a couple of weeks ago to check the quality of fish and chips, customer service, shop cleanliness and staff training.
The judge will now report back to the panel and decide whether to put Remo and Sergio through to the next round where they will compete against the 19 other regional finalists.
Remo said: "We are really excited.
"We have entered twice before and last time it was about four years ago and we got into the top 10 then.
"So we will be entering every year from now on."
The shop has been in the family for 30 years and about seven years ago the brothers took it over.
They shut it for six months and completely refurbished the shop and it's been doing great ever since.
Remo added: "We get a lot of business for locals and the surrounding areas, like Beith, and passing trade from Largs and Castle Semple.
"Our customers keep coming back so we must be doing something right.
"We would like to thank all our customers for completing a voting form."
They now have to wait until the middle of October to see if they will make it in to the next stage.
The winner will be announced in January at an awards ceremony in London.
Douglas Alexander, MP, is a fan of the local shop and sent the staff a letter wishing them luck.
He said: "I just wanted to wish you all the best in the Fish and Chip Shop of the Year competition. Here's hoping for a Lochwinnoch victory."
Bruce McFee, councillor for Johnstone North, Kilbarchan and Lochwinnoch, also wished the shop all the best.
He said: "Good luck to La Dolce Vita, I think for a small village to boast a regional finalist is a great achievement, well done."
