A LADIES' night has been hailed a great success after nearly £500 was raised for a good cause.

Allyson Muir, 42, from Johnstone, decided to hold the event to help raise money for Ward 37 in the Royal Alexandra Hospital, in Paisley.

The ward is looking to create a snoezelen room to help patients with dementia.

Allyson, who is a support worker at Quarriers, was motivated to raise money as her aunt is being cared for in the ward.

She said: "My aunt has been in for five weeks and has just been diagnosed with vasuclar dementia. I saw it advertised that they are raising funds for a snoezelen room, so I thought I would hold a ladies' night."

The Wallace Tavern, in Elderslie, was the venue for the event that was held on Friday, September 18, and the kind-hearted staff even provided a DJ for night.

Allyson was delighted that about 80 people turned up to raise money for the worthy cause.

She said: "The night was great.

"It went really well and we raised £465.

"I didn't think we would raise as much as that.

"Everyone had a good time, it was fantastic."

"There was a raffle, with prizes donated from local businesses, stand up bingo, a buffet and not to mention lots of dancing."

Alison added: "I would like to thank all the business for the raffle prizes and for everyone for coming, making it a great night and to Andrew, at the Wallace Tavern, for letting us use the lounge."

The snoezelen room can be used for motivation, encouragement, pain reduction, anger management, stress relief, or simply for recreational pleasure and relaxation.

Research suggests that the absorbing environment created by the room can effect positive, real, and sometimes lasting change in mood, behaviour, and relationships.

A spokesperson for the RAH said: "We are always very grateful for any and all fundraising done on our behalf.

"We would like to thank everyone who helped raise money for the Royal Alexandra Hospital."
