A HOWWOOD man tragically collapsed and died at the wheel of his car after suffering a suspected heart attack.
Thomas Grady, 63, was complaining of back pain on Saturday January 16 and he contacted NHS 24.
It is claimed that they asked him to drive himself to the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH), in Paisley, however he collapsed on the way near the roundabout end of Elderslie's Main Road, at 2.15pm.
Thomas was found slumped at the wheel of his Suzuki Liana by members of the public, who battled to try and save his life.
The police quickly closed off the road as paramedics arrived and tried to resuscitate him.
He was taken to the RAH but was pronounced dead at 2.40pm.
Thomas is survived by his wife Janice and his two children Lynne, 40, and Scott, 38.
Janice said: "We would like to thank the bus driver, members of the public who helped and the members of staff at the hospital."
A painter and decorator to trade, Thomas also had four grandchildren, Daren, 18, Gemma, 16, Aaron, 7 and Rachel 6.
His funeral will take place at St Aiden's Church in Johnstone on Friday.

My heart goes out to his family. I passed this on my way to work.
Why the hell did NHS24 not send an ambulance out in the first place. The whole system is a joke and needs to be re-evaluted.
My condolences to family and friends.
